Bill Murray Sang “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” at the World Series Like Daffy Duck

Forget the fact that the Chicago Cubs haven’t won a World Series since 1908. Before this post-season they hadn’t even made the World Series since 1945. That’s over 70 years without hosting Major League Baseball‘s premier event, over seven decades since the Wrigley Field faithfuls got to watch their beloved Cubbies play for the ultimate prize. So last night’s Game 3 in Chicago was kind of a big deal, and that’s why they called on their most famous mega-fan, Bill Murray, to lead their traditional Seventh Inning Stretch sing-a-long of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.”

So of course he sang it like Daffy Duck.

Yes, the most important game at Wrigley Field in over 70 years and Bill Murray elected to sing it with a Daffy Duck lisp. Was it weird? Yes. Did it make any sense? Not a lick. Was it totally awesome? Most definitely.

But like any good Cubs fan, before beginning his unusual rendition, he made sure to remind the rest of the ballpark that, besides being time to loosen up their muscles, the Seventh Inning Stretch was also the last time they could purchase beer. Considering the Cubs were shut out by the Cleveland Indians 1-0 in a super tense nail biter, they needed it.

And they might need more, since the Indians, who themselves haven’t won the World Series since 1948, now lead the best-of-seven series 2-1, with their ace Corey Kluber, who shut the Cubs down in Game 1, going tonight in Game 4.

Trailing in the series and facing a the opposition’s best starting pitcher? There’s only one way to describe the situation for Cubs fans right now: dethpicable.

Could any celebrity besides Bill Murray get away with such a weird performance? Tell us who else has that kind of cache in the comments below.
