Bill Murray Explains His GHOSTBUSTERS Cameo

It’s widely believed that a third Ghostbusters movie never happened because Bill Murray was reluctant to reprise his role as Peter Venkman from the first two films. However, it was recently confirmed that Murray shot a cameo appearance in the upcoming reboot Ghostbusters movie directed by Paul Feig.

“You know, they were incredibly nice to ask me, and I really enjoyed being there,” said Murray during a recent interview with Vulture. “They have such a jolly group, and they are going to have great success with this project. I didn’t want to overshadow [them] or anything, and I feel really good about it.”

Murray’s last experience with the Ghostbusters franchise was providing his voice alongside most of the original cast for Ghostbusters: The Video Game, which was released in 2009. In the new interview, Murray acknowledged that he wasn’t initially sure if he wanted to revisit the franchise in any form.

“I thought about it for a very long time,” explained Murray. “Like, many, many months. No, that’s not right. I was seriously thinking about this for years, really… It kept eating at me, and I really respect those girls. And then I started to feel like if I didn’t do this movie, maybe somebody would write a bad review or something, thinking there was some sort of disapproval [on my part].”

Murray’s part in the reboot is rumored to be a ghost debunker who is out to prove that the new Ghostbusters are frauds. If that’s true, his new character sounds more like William Atherton’s Walter Peck than Peter Venkman. Murray’s former Ghostbusters costar, Dan Aykroyd will also have a cameo in the new film.

The Ghostbusters reboot will haunt movie theaters on July 15, 2016.

Ghostbusters fans, are you happy to have Murray on board for the reboot? Who you gonna call? Let us know in the comment section below!
