Big Time Fan

Hey, kids, what time is it?

If you check this clever — perhaps too clever — clock that looks and expands and contracts like a Japanese folding fan, you might need to take a few seconds to figure it out:

“Spire” won a Reddot Design Award in 2010 for designers Ekaggrat Singh Kalsi and Darshan Soni. You can’t buy one. Yet.

What I don’t get is why the hour hand is an inch or more further after it resets. Shouldn’t it be in the same place ? Or does it take 20 mins to reset the fan ? Which means your clock is unintelligible 1/3 of the time.
The first couple of clips show this the best. It resets faster than the clock transpiring its time, but not “faster enough”.
It’s going to spend about a third of it’s time wrong.
Pause the video while it is resetting. That is what you would see when you walk into the room. What time is it then ?

I love the design, but I could have done without the sound on the video. Made me want to hit myself in the head with a snow shovel.
