BETTER CALL SAUL… The Song? Oh, Hell Yes!

Though Saul Goodman’s own show may have started as a television spin-off pipe-dream, Breaking Bad’s corrupt lawyer extraordinaire will be returning to television screens everywhere this February in his own series, Better Call Saul. Co-created by Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould, the new series will follow Saul’s journey that lead to the moment he met the infamous Heisenberg (as well as some time after they parted ways according to recent reports), and up until now that’s all we’ve known outside of some quick glimpses thanks to AMC. However (as we told you last week they would), not one to be out of the cultural conversation for too long, the network has released an all new, rather unorthodox promo for the new show… then again, what about Saul has ever been orthodox?

Got to hand it to AMC, a country music video is not a weapon we initially would have expected to be used for the Better Call Saul marketing campaign, but it totally nails the dark humor that we hope the show will embody. This Junior Brown performance just feels like a truly perfect way to ring in Saul’s new program. It’s got that eerie, uneasy sense about it, like so many of Breaking Bad’s final scenes with the morally bankrupt lawyer.

Truthfully, we’re really pulling for this series to be a hit. There’s still a lot of the Breaking Bad world left to explore, especially in the aftermath Walter White’s path of destruction. How is the state of New Mexico dealing with the end of Heisenberg’s reign? What’s became of Jessie? Is Huell still waiting in that room? These are the kinds of questions for which we need answers.

February is still a bit of a ways off, but if AMC can keep delivering marketing hits like this to get us ready for the series premiere, then it will be a worthwhile wait.
