BETTER CALL SAUL Teaser Asks How Jimmy Became Saul

Just how did Saul end up Saul, anyway? Admit it: you didn’t think Saul would make it to (or through) the Breaking Bad finale, did you? As tight as the noose got around Walter White’s neck during that final season, it felt like Saul would probably get snuffed out as an afterthought. Actor Bob Odenkirk gave the character such a slippery, hard-to-parse morality (essentially, what’s good for Saul is all good), that made him one of the series’ most compellingly-watchable characters.

“What kind of problem do you have that becoming Saul Goodman solves it?” asks Better Call Saul creator Peter Gould. Gould is joined by series co-creator/Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan in this 30 second teaser for the AMC spinoff.

What is Saul’s deal? The series, set half a decade before the events of Breaking Bad, might just answer that question, taking us into the past of Jimmy McGill who becomes New Mexico’s most prominent (and dirty) defense attorney.

Bob Odenkirk reprises his role as Saul with Jonathan Banks returning as fixer Mike Erhmantraut, as Jimmy goes from small-time hustler to big time criminal lawyer. Michael McKean helps round out the cast as Chuck, with Rhea Seehorn as Kim, Patrick Fabian as Hamlin, and Michael Mando as Nacho. No idea who those characters are, but AMC is promising that they’ll straddle both sides of the law.

The first, 10-episode season of Better Call Saul makes its AMC debut in February 2015. A second season has already been greenlit by the network.
