It’s been nearly a year since Breaking Bad left that gaping hole in our hearts with the best series finale since The Sopranos, but there was a light at the end of the tunnel when AMC announced the series would be followed by a prequel starring everyone’s favorite corrupt lawyer, Saul Goodman, titled Better Call Saul. Thus far, all we’ve known is the series – written by Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould – has been ordered for a ten episode first season and is set to premiere later this year, but it seems that’s no longer the case.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, AMC has pulled a Netflix with the Breaking Bad prequel and already renewed it for a second, 13 episode season. However, with the celebration of a renewal also comes the news that the network has decided to push Better Call Saul’s series premiere from November 2014 to the first quarter of 2015. The series will now share a night with the second half of The Walking Dead’s next season, and the same will be done in 2016 should the zombie drama be renewed (let’s be honest, it will).

While it’s sad to hear Better Call Saul is being delayed, it does mean AMC’s giving the creative team ample time to get the series right, and that’s a hard thing to come by in Hollywood. Also, now we can watch the series knowing it isn’t in constant danger of cancelation, and that’s nice too.
