Benedict Cumberbatch Sang “Comfortably Numb” with Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour

As we all are anxiously awaiting the release of Benedict Cumberbatch‘s on-screen debut as Doctor Strange and Sherlockians are waiting for the final season of Sherlock, it looks like Cumberbatch is testing out his skills outside the realms of detective work, and superhero-ing.

As Guitar World reports, former Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour had the actor join him onstage to sing “Comfortably Numb.” While no one could ever compare to the original performance given by Roger Waters, Cumberbatch doesn’t do a bad job–especially for a guy who isn’t a singer by trade. It’s a random collaboration, to be certain, but it’s always fun to learn that Doctor Strange himself is a Pink Floyd fan (which is only fair since Pink Floyd mentions Doctor Strange in the song “Cymbaline”).

Even though we probably can’t expect Sherlock to drop an album any time soon, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard Cumberbatch sing. He sang the adorable song “Can’t Keep It Inside” for his 2003 film, August: Osage County. However, maybe we’ll get more singing from our favorite English, internet boyfriend when he officially travels to Whoville, shrinks his heart a few sizes, and becomes our latest version of Dr. Seuss’ Grinch. Regardless of what singing Cumberbatch adds to his resume, a duet with David Gilmour in front of a packed house at London’s Royal Albert Hall is a pretty sparkling achievement.

This isn’t the first time that Gilmour has called celebs onstage to help out with “Comfortably Numb,” of course. He frequently calls up celebs to take over the lyrics originally sung by Waters. The most notable guests being David Bowie back in the late aughts.

How did you think Cumberbatch did singing “Comfortably Numb”? Who else would you like to see Gilmour pull onstage to take over Waters’ part from the famous Pink Floyd song? Tell us your thoughts in the comments!

Did our Doctor Strange set visit confirm some serious spoilers?
