Watch Ben Schwartz Teach Larry King What SONIC THE HEDGEHOG Is

The internet has been buzzing about the new Sonic the Hedgehog movie all week after the release a few puzzling posters for the film were released. They depict Sonic as more of an athletic humanoid creature than a, you know, hedgehog, and fans have voiced their opinions about this new take. But it turns out they aren’t the only ones dubious about the film. Ben Schwartz, the actor voicing Sonic, was on Larry King Now this week to promote his new film An Actor Prepares, where he confused the veteran TV host when talking about his role as the speedy forest rodent.

After Schwartz explained the premise of the character (a hedgehog that can run very fast) he seemed to befuddle King when he mentioned that the film will be live action. “Live action?” King asked, perhaps picturing Schwartz in a giant hedgehog costume, trying to run.

“Sonic will be CG,” Schwartz clarified, before adding that the rest of the film will feature real people, like Jim Carrey and James Marsden.

“But you’re animated?” King asked again, still not really getting it. Can’t say we blame him; imagine hearing about Sonic the Hedgehog for the first time in this way, sitting across from the person playing him in a live-action film. You’d be confused, too. He then asks a question a lot of people are wondering: “Why did they do this?”

But, always the good sport, King had some fun when Schwartz asked him to guess what a hedgehog talks like. He bristles at first, before saying in a mopey, neurotic voice, “Hello, I’m just a hedgehog. Nobody cares about me,” like a character straight out of a Woody Allen movie.

We have no idea how this new Sonic the Hedgehog movie will turn out, but if the press continues like this, it’s bound to be a blast. The film hits theaters November 8, 2019.
