It’s a question that’s plagued mankind since the dawn of timeâor at least since the dawn of advertising for director Gavin O’Connor’s The Accountant began in earnest, which would place it around early May. Still, in this day and age, that’s a long time for a question to be stewing. What is this burning question you ask? It’s a simple one: Will Ben Affleck’s character have a badass catchphrase in The Accountant? The answer, it seems, is a sadly resounding no, as O’Conner and his ensemble elected to create a grounded thriller that doesn’t ham it up more than yours truly at an all-you-can-eat gabbagool buffet. Still, we wanted answers, so Nerdist sent its intrepid reporter, Hector Navarro, to get to the bottom of it. And the answer just may shock you. Either that or you’re wearing socks and have been rubbing your feet on the carpet for too long.
In addition to grilling Affleck about his lack of over-the-top exclamations, we spoke with Gavin O’Connor and co-stars J.K. Simmons and Cynthia Addai-Robinson about the physical challenges of bringing the thriller to life, the tonal challenges about portraying autism on the big screen, and who would win in a fight, The Accountant, Batman, or Jason Bourne. Once again, the ansswers just may shock you. But you should really put on a pair of shoes just to be safe. This carpet conducts a surprising amount of electricity and you don’t want to die having this be the last thing in your search history.
What do you think Ben Affleck’s catchphrase should be? Let us know in the comments below.
Warner Bros.’ The Accountant is in theaters on October 14, 2016.
