Behold the Glory of Live-Action FUTURAMA’s Hypnotoad!

Last month, the first trailer was released for Fan-O-Rama, a fan film of Matt Groening’s Futurama that brought the cult classic animated series into live action with realistic depictions of the series’ wildest characters like Leela, Bender, Professor Farnsworth, and even Dr. Zoidberg! And to quote everyone’s favorite crustacean doctor, “Woop, woop, woop!” But as impressive as those recreations are, they pale in comparison to the majesty of the Hypnotoad.

In a new video from Tested, Frank Ippolito shares an up close look at the Hypnotoad used in Fan-O-Rama and reveals how it came to be. Apparently Ippolito created this Hypnotoad with Brian Wade, a special effects and make up artist who has worked on John Carpenter‘s The Thing, The Terminator, and Blade, among several other projects. Ippolito also reveals how he managed to animate Hypnotoad’s eyes, which can be seen to move even in this brief video.

Within the Futurama universe, Hypnotoad lives up to his name as he often demonstrates his power to control the minds of humans, animals, and aliens. He’s even got his own highly successful show within a show: Everyone Loves Hypnotoad. It’s basically a single-camera series that lets the Hypnotoad expand his reach throughout the galaxy. “All glory to the Hypnotoad!”

Fan-O-Rama doesn’t currently have an announced release date, but we can’t wait to see what else the filmmakers have in store for us! You can follow the progress of this project here.
