Behold the Giant in Steven Spielberg’s New THE BFG Trailer

It’s time to visit Giant Country in the new trailer for Steven Spielberg’s The BFG. And for the first time, we’ve got a good look at the BFG himself!

The BFG is based on the book by Roald Dahl, the writer of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and several other classics. In case you were wondering, “BFG” stands for Big Friendly Giant (although the video game Doom would argue otherwise). Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies) is voicing the BFG, and his companion is a ten-year-old girl named Sophie (Ruby Barnhill).

As depicted in the new trailer, the BFG answers Sophie’s unintended call during the Witching Hour in London, and we finally get to see how the BFG can move so swiftly and remain undetected in the human world. But unlike some of his brethren, the BFG is kind and gentle. And he’s going to share the wonders of Giant Country with his newfound friend.

However, there is danger in Giant Country, and even a giant can be dwarfed by other giants. The closing moments of the trailer offer a glimpse of some fearsome man-eating giants who tower over the BFG while Sophie is forced to hide.

In case you needed any more incentive to see this movie, the legendary John Williams is once again composing the soundtrack for Spielberg, which continues their long-running cinematic collaboration.

The BFG will stomp into movie theaters on July 1.
