Behind the Scenes Stunt Footage from BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER

Ready to attack your day once more, with feeling? These videos showing behind the scenes footage from Buffy the Vampire Slayer will help. Professional stunt coordinator Jeff Pruitt worked on the series, and he’s shared home videos he made on set that feature actors, stunt doubles, and extras getting down and dirty. Sure, it’s a delightful trip back in time to the making of a fantastic television series, but beyond the warm and fuzzy feelings, the videos offer an interesting look at the magic of choreographing and shooting a fight scene just right. Spoilers: it seems challenging.

Pruitt’s uploaded about 20 videos that show everyone getting beat up in classic moments you’re sure to recognize. Remember when Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and Faith (Eliza Dushku) had their first fight? Pruitt has a six minute home video showing how it all went down. He said the encounter was originally only supposed to have two hits, but he fought to make it longer because he thought it was important for the characters. The shots feature the actresses, David Boreanz, and their stunt doubles Sophia Crawford (Buffy), Karen Sheperd (Faith), and Mike Massa (Angel).

Here’s some of the finished fight:

For each video Pruitt shares, he offers commentary that completes the behind the scenes experience. For a scene from “Hush,” he discusses how he made the characters float:

For HUSH I built a travel rig in my garage (for flying the characters) to save money using whatever parts I had laying around. I had previously used the existing buildings at Universal Studios to rig from but producers wanted a longer floating glide for the characters. This meant a huge expense of big cranes sitting parked on the lot while we shot other things. Nothing we could do about that. But in the end it was worth it. It was a cool shot.

    Awesomness!!!!

  2. The stunt doubles were fantastic, however it doesn’t mean that Sarah wasn’t fighting, she did many stunts on her own especially after Sophia left. Take a look at this video for fight scenes without stunt doubles… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ptmJOJGGq80
