Behind the Scenes of TRICK ‘R TREAT Digital Halloween Decorations (and Sequel Update!)

Remember when Halloween decorations were just cardboard skeletons, a few rubber bats, and a jack o’ lantern? Well, things have become a lot more sophisticated surrounding Halloween decorations in the 21st century. The biggest example of this is a company called AtmosFX, which creates spooky, movie quality digital decorations for your home, many of which put some local theme parks Halloween offerings to shame. If you own a digital projector, and some white bedsheets or mosquito netting you can drape over your windows, AtmosFX will give you the coolest Halloween decorations on your block.

Now, thanks to Dread Central, we’ve learned that AtmosFX has teamed up with Legendary Pictures and director Michael Dougherty to bring the characters from his cult classic horror film Trick ‘r Treat to life, via an all-new series of digital decorations. According to the press release, the Trick ‘r Treat digital decoration “focuses on the mythology of the original movie, written and directed by Dougherty, and the character of Sam, the mysterious child in the burlap-sack mask who ties together the film’s intertwined Halloween-themed stories.”

These digital decoration showcase an series of vignettes featuring Sam who, just like in the movie, seeks revenge on those who don’t properly follow the Halloween traditions. Among these vignettes, we have Sam taking care of a local bully who tries to trick-or-treat without a proper costume,  as well as Sam getting his revenge on at a house that only gives away healthy snacks (I hate those jerks). We also see Sam seeking retribution on an old curmudgeon who steals candy from trick-or-treating kids. and also Sam re-decorating the house of a homeowner who removes his Halloween decorations before the night is over. You can watch a special behind-the-scenes video of the making of the Trick ‘r Treat decorations above.

And for those of you out there who are eagerly awaiting the arrival of Trick ‘r Treat 2, Dougherty recently gave an small update to the folks at Slashfilm, telling them the following bit of news:

“I’m going to speak carefully about that [Laughs], because the moment I utter a word about the sequel, everybody starts salivating. It is very much my intention to make the sequel. Legendary is very committed to making the movie. Creatively, it’s in process. When it actually happens, I don’t know. But, hopefully, stuff like this—the digital decorations, the comic books, the merchandise, and what have you—will tide people over and I can finally get around to making it. Nothing would make me happier than returning to that universe….I think it’d be great to make it a trilogy, at least. “

So there you have it…not only is Trick ‘r Treat 2 coming, we might even get a part 3 as well. Someday. In the meantime, the AtmosFX decorations will become available for download in September.
