BEAUTY AND THE BEAST and BIG HERO 6 Coming Soon to Tokyo Disneyland

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST and BIG HERO 6 Coming Soon to Tokyo Disneyland

With Disney‘s live-action Beauty and the Beast breaking box office records, it was only a matter of time before the popular movie was given its very own area in a Disney park. Unfortunately for those of us living stateside, the new themed area will be heading to Tokyo Disneyland.

The Oriental Land Co., Ltd. broke ground today for a Fantasyland expansion that will be the biggest investment since the opening of the Tokyo Disney Sea park in 2001.

The Beauty and the Beast themed area will include an attraction, shop, and restaurant. The concept art looks like the eatery is using antlers in all of its decorating, so it’s a safe bet the theme will be Gaston’s Tavern and the food will be manly and delicious.

Disney Parks Blog announced the Beauty and the Beast attraction will have guests board “enchanted dishes” in a life-like version of the “Be Our Guest” musical scene from the movie. A walkthrough video shows the flow of the lands and how it will relate to the current layout of the park.

Even more exciting news for Tokyo Disneyland, the Tomorrowland area will get the very first Big Hero 6 themed attraction inspired by the film, where Baymax and guests will enjoy a musical, spinning whip ride. On a scale of 1 to 10, my sadness level is high since a Baymax ride doesn’t seem in the cards for U.S. parks anytime soon.

In addition to the Fantasyland and Tomorrowland expansions other additions include a new Minnie Mouse meet-and-greet area in Toontown, and a very large futuristic-looking popcorn shop.

One might think an entire shop dedicated to popcorn is overdoing it but at Tokyo Disneyland popcorn is serious business. In the park, carts offer a variety of popcorn flavors including honey, curry, and even soy sauce, along with different collectible buckets available in each land. So it makes sense that an entire popcorn emporium would be high on the bucket list for snackers.

These new exciting new Tokyo Disneyland attractions and areas are set to open in 2020. Check out all the concept images in the gallery below.
