Much like many stories of musical success begin, Beat Awfuls started out in Boston in the early 2000s making 4-track recordings in a bedroom before moving on to more sophisticated setups and growing as a more comfortable band. That’s an aesthetic than can really work if it’s done well, and Beat Awfuls are sticking to it with admirable results. Their upcoming debut album, Nothing Happens, features four songs that originally arose from these sessions. The new record has 12 songs in total; one of those, “You’re Not Gonna Love Me Anymore,” has a brand new music video, which is premiering above, exclusively on Nerdist.
The slow-motion and over-saturated clip essentially features a backyard, a garden hose, and a man in a kimono, and it’s just what the hazy track needed. The song has a sort of Black Lips vibe, with hints of Father John Misty’s general melancholy. Fans of Kentucky’s DIY scene probably recognize the fine musicians in the band, as they are members of Idiot Glee as well. The good news is that if you’re feeling this, Beat Awfuls is already super excited to work on their sophomore record, as they’ll be heading to the studio in April to do just that.
The song is taken from the band’s upcoming debut album, Nothing Happens, which comes out on February 12 via Jurassic Pop. They don’t have any tour dates in support of the record announced yet, but we imagine they’ll have some sort of record release show in the near future. Regardless, keep up with Beat Awfuls’ happenings on their website.
