Beach House Covered Weezer’s “Undone–Sweater Song” in Luxembourg

In unexpected music news, dream-pop duo Beach House performed a faithful cover of  Weezer‘s classic, 1994 track, “Undone–The Sweater Song”, while playing a show in Luxembourg. On the cramped stage, Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally performed with a touring bandmate who provided harmony.

The lyrics to this song are hilarious, which is also kind of devastating because they feel like a metaphor for insanity: “If you want to destroy my sweater, hold this thread as I walk away.” In Legrand’s trademark hazy delivery, and with her long brown locks hiding most of her face, the track takes on a heavier, more haunting vibe than the original tune. Oh, and if you’ve never seen this Weezer video, watch out for the canines!

While I’m not convinced that Beach House should do a Weezer covers album, it’s pretty bold of them to venture so far from their own material, especially since they currently have two albums to promote: Depression Cherry, and the very recent surprise release, Thank Your Lucky Stars. This band certainly is keeping us on our toes, and I’m looking forward to their next surprise.

What are your thoughts on Beach House’s Weezer cover? Which band or song should they cover next, if they were going to go down that route? Reach out to me on Twitter (@trilbyberesford), or let us know in the comments section below.
