BB-8 Joined Reggie Watts for a Funky Duet on THE LATE LATE SHOW

Aww, yeah, it’s time to awaken the funk–the droid funk.

Last night on The Late Late Show with James Corden, band leader Reggie Watts surprised the host when he said he’d been working on something special for the show, a new song he’d written with and for his “muse,” the one that has inspired almost all of his music since he was 13 years old. That’s when BB-8 himself, the spherical little orange soccer ball-like droid from The Force Awakens, rolled out onto the stage to join Reggie in a duet.

It helped that Reggie apparently speaks astromech droid, so he was able to let everyone knows about “B’s” excitement for the show.

Then Reggie and Poe Dameron‘s little trusted traveling companion busted out a super funky song with some help from the “jam band.” The number extolled the virtues of BB-8, with a smooth rocking solo from the droid himself (that sounded way better than it had any right to sound).

No surprise since he doesn’t have to worry about having two left feet, but BB-8 also has some of the best dance moves in all of the galaxy far, far away. Reggie’s not bad either.

I’m not sure if John Williams is looking for any co-writers for Episode VIII‘s score, but I can’t imagine there isn’t room for “Droid Funk” somewhere in there. Instead of a cantina maybe Rey and Finn can find themselves at an intergalactic funk bar instead.

While we continue to dance at our desks to this song, you tell us what other artists you’d like to see BB-8 roll with next, right here in the comments below.
