BB-8 is Now A Playable Rubik’s Cube

Gather ‘round kids and let me tell you a tale of olden times, when you needed quarters to play video games and we played with toys that were cubes with stickers on them. I’m talking about Rubik’s Cube, the toy from the 1980s that twisted and turned and sent your mind into a meltdown.

Now the toy has an update, a Star Wars update with the release of a new BB-8 themed Rubik’s Cube. While it’s obviously not a cube at all, it’s clearly named that just for the sake of puzzle solving.

This toy version of the droid is actually a playable puzzle where BB-8’s body rotates in all directions in order to solve his unique pattern. The head seems to stay on throughout the process making it more complicated and fun as BB-8 watches you play.

This little droid is only for game purposes; it doesn’t move or react like Sphero’s version, but I’m sure it’d be just as happy to watch The Force Awakens with you. Now if only it would give the thumbs up once you solved the puzzle.

This droid is officially licensed and all the instructions are in Japanese, which is fine because you probably won’t need them anyway. You know how a Rubik’s Cube works – you move the pieces, then move them back, then move them to the side, then throw the Rubik’s Cube across the room in frustration, go watch TV, eat a snack, then go retrieve the cube, then try again. You don’t need instructions for that.

The BB-8 Rubik’s Cube is $55 and only available in Japan.
