BARISTA Trailer Brings Perfect Froth to Competition Documentaries

Barista will have you running for your espresso machine, and wondering what kind of goodies you can accomplish in 15 minutes. Wait, you don’t have an espresso machine at home? Of course you don’t. You’re like me. A broken French press and an addiction to my morning cup of coffee pretty much makes me an expert in coffee, right? Wrong! Check out the trailer for this new documentary above.

The documentary follows five competitors in the National Barista Championship at the U.S. Coffee Championships held in April. The competition judges the participants on an espresso shot, a cappuccino, and a free-style innovative espresso-based beverage of their own design. In the documentary, Edem-Marie Abramowicz, Charles Babinski, Charlie Habegger, Truman Severson and Ryan Redden compete to be named Best Barista by a group of technical and sensory judges all within their allotted 15 minute window of competition. From the looks of the trailer alone, anything can mess them up from a single drop of water on the grill beneath their shot to a botched piece of latte foam art.

When I heard about this documentary, I honestly thought my birthday had come early. It’s only a few weeks away, and stranger things have happened in my life. It was actually perfect that it came along today as well considering a friend was just reminiscing about our coffee adventures last night, and I was halfway through my second press of coffee when the trailer popped up on my radar.

The film was directed by Rock Baijnauth. You can download it on both iTunes and Amazon Prime. I know it’s no longer the traditional coffee drinking morning hours, but something tells me I’m going to be adding to my #coffeeismyboyfriend Instagram hashtag in the very, very near future. Go watch and tell me if it doesn’t have you making a fresh cup immediately!
