Aww, This Tortoise Gets Mobility Assistance From a LEGO Wheelchair

Tortoises aren’t known for moving at lightning fast speeds, but they should at least be capable of getting around. Blade the tortoise was having troubles with mobility, and when his owner Iris Peste noticed, she took him to a veterinarian for diagnosis. Luckily for her and us, it turns out that her vet may be the most creative animal caregiver in the history of ever.

According to The Daily Mail, Blade suffered from a few afflictions that were affecting his get up and go. A growth disorder made his limbs weak, and the poor little guy was having a difficult time just lifting himself up. My heart. Realizing Blade need some assistance while he got better, Dr. Carsten Plischke went to his son’s toy box and came up with a LEGO wheelchair for Blade to use until he heals (and he will be able to use his legs again). I know the phrase I can’t even is over used, but right now… I can’t even.

Plischke told The Daily Mail, “For people there are walkers, rollators or prostheses but for animals there are no companies that produce something like that.”

Maybe there will be now. Plischke attached three square LEGO plates to Blade’s belly. How the bricks are attached to the belly isn’t clear, but I’m guessing it’s some sort of skin safe adhesive. Four wheels were added to the base, and tada! Blade could move again. LIKE MAGIC. If like me, you’re dying to see the LEGO rig in action, skip to the 1:59 mark in the below video:

My week is made.
