AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR’s Thanos Showdown Gets a 16-Bit Makeover

Avengers: Infinity War delivered on its promise to give fans the biggest Marvel crossover we’ve ever seen in live-action when it premiered in May. The film took its primary inspiration from Infinity Gauntlet, an event miniseries from 1991 which featured the surviving heroes facing Thanos after he had assembled the Infinity Gauntlet. Now, YouTube channel Mr. Sunday Movies has reimagined one of the climatic battles from Infinity War as if it was made into a 16-bit video game from ’90s, when the original comic was released. The animation was created by John Stratman with music by Dave Anson.

The scene in question takes place late in Infinity War, as Iron Man, Doctor Strange, and Spider-Man team up with Star-Lord, Drax, and Mantis from the Guardians of the Galaxy. Together, they brought the fight to Thanos on his homeworld Titan and very nearly defeated the Mad Titan. They were so close until Star-Lord’s anger took the battle in a different direction.

Although the animation is only around five minutes long, it tracks very closely to the actual film in terms of length. At the half-way point of the video, it becomes a side-by-side comparison between the original movie and this re-creation. It’s a fun clip, but Doctor Strange still gets the best demonstration of his mystical powers. The animation of the Sorcerer Supreme is more than enough to make us want a throwback Doctor Strange game.
