AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Confirmed to Tie Into AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.

Tonight marks the conclusion of the first half of ABC’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s second season in the form of its mid-season finale that will pick-up where last week left off with brainwashed Mack trapped in an ancient city and Skye kidnapped by Ward just before Whitehall gave the order to bring down the bus. Obviously, we’re super excited to see how things turn out, but that doesn’t means we aren’t already thinking about the spring run that will begin in March following the completion of Agent Carter’s “event series.” However, it seems we’re not the only ones thinking about S.H.I.E.L.D.’s 2015 arcs either.

In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, the head honchos of AoS confirmed what we’ve all suspected for months: there will be an Avengers: Age of Ultron tie-in when the movies comes out. “You should expect something,” said Jed Whedon. “The Avengers is the big tent that all the franchises play under. Obviously, we’re included in that.” But that doesn’t mean we should be expecting a Winter Soldier type game-changer, however. “I don’t think any movie has the potential to impact us in the way that Captain America 2 did,” said Maurissa Tancharoen, “but there will be connections.”

Time to speculate: given the rumors the destruction level of Ultron is expected to be of a magnitude yet to be seen in the MCU, it’s possible we’ll get to see Coulson and the team finally reveal themselves as being in existence to some of the Avengers members, Hawkeye perhaps, given the lore relationship that exists between him and Mockingbird. It’s still really early days to say anything definitively, but at least now we can speculate knowing there’s something to speculate for.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs Tuesdays at 9/8c on ABC.

How do you think Avengers: Age of Ultron will tie into S.H.I.E.L.D.? Let us know in the comments below.

It would be pretty cool if the SHIELD team encounter and defeat one of the early versions of Ultron

  2. McFeely says:

Still waiting for Daisy Johnson or Tony Masters to show up, I’m not sure Taskmaster would be movie villian status but he could do some damage on Agents of Shield

  3. i_d_k says:

Marvel could use agents of shield to launch some street level heroes, who actually have secret identities.  That would help set up civil War.

So, how will Age of Ultron tie into Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.? Hmmmm…it would be hilarious for Coulson and his team to be fighting a group of baddies on one side of the room while a few Avengers are doing the same on the other side and they kind of “accidentally” bump into each other and have a WTF moment…that they have fun with it (like when Coulson blew away Bill Paxton’s character, the Clairvoyant, on the show).
I could also see the whole Ultron thing make the world decide that maybe they do need a S.H.I.E.L.D type of agency in place…taking Coulson and his team out of hiding and back into prime-time.

  5. I’m just nervous because Whedon hasn’t drawn fresh blood in a while; there’s this horrible feeling in my gut that someone is going to bite it!
