AVENGERS 4 Trailer Marks the Beginning of the ENDGAME

We get overly dramatic any time a studio makes us wait even just a teensy, weensy little bit longer than normal for a trailer, so when they finally release it we’re fond of quoting President Gerald Ford after he pardoned Richard Nixon: “Our long national nightmare is over.” But considering Marvel hasn’t just deprived us of a trailer for Avengers 4 for months and months, they even refused to tell us the name of their follow-up to Infinity War where half of all life in the universe was snapped out of existence, we’re going the other way. We’re going to try some understatement now that we have been given our first official look at the film, which we now know is called Avengers: Endgame.

“Finally.”

And although it was a long time coming, it certainly looks like it was worth the wait.

Oh we can’t help it! “OUR LONG NATIONAL NIGHTMARE IS OVER!”

We’ll have a complete breakdown of this trailer later (followed by us breaking down the breakdown), but here are a few things that stand out the most after the first first look:

  • Tony is in the Guardians ship the Benatar lost in space, so where is Nebula? Why didn’t she help get him back home to Earth? We know she’s still around because we see her looking sad.
  • Scott Lang (and it seems Shuri) was listed among the missing, and he completely shocked Steve and Natasha by showing up. Yay! Scott escaped the Quantum Realm. But when did he get out of it? How much later does that happen? How long was he missing for? It was long enough for Captain America to shave his beard, but is that a week later or five years?
  • Hawkeye escaped and is back on the streets serving justice in his Ronin getup. If he’s back fighting again it’s likely none of his family survived the Snapture.
  • What is the plan that has to work?

And that’s just what we got on a first pass. And while we don’t know the exact plot still, now that we have an actual title and have some idea of what we’ll be dealing with we can start worrying about something far more important: which beloved characters are going to survive and which are going to die? We’re not as eager to get those answers.
