Warning: There are potential spoilers ahead for Avengers 4. Turn away now if you don’t want to know anything ahead of time!Â
The movie formerly known as Avengers: Infinity War Part 2 has become such a big secret for Marvel that Kevin Feige won’t even release the film’s name because it would probably be a spoiler. Avengers 4 is going wrap up Marvel’s Phase 3 movies, and it will presumably be the final MCU appearance for a few performers whose contracts have run out. Plot details have been closely guarded on this one, however, photos from the set have revealed that many of the Avengers appear to be wearing their costumes from the first movie, during the Battle of New York and its aftermath. Naturally, we assumed that it was either a flashback or a trip back in time. But what if our time travel theories were wrong? Today’s Nerdist News is examining some intriguing new hints that call into question everything that we thought we knew about Avengers 4.
Join host and wielder of the Power Cosmic, Jessica Chobot, as she goes over the clues that may send the Avengers into the multiverse. Back in 2016, the Doctor Strange movie established the MCU multiverse without really showing us any alternate Earths. A close examination of the latest set photos from Avengers 4 reveals that the team appears to be wearing wrist devices that resemble the Tallus, an inter-dimensional teleport jump used by members of Marvel’s Exiles. They’re the team that travels to different alternate universes that just recently received a revival after a decade in limbo.
Here’s our amended theory: Thanos wins in Avengers: Infinity War, leaving most of our beloved heroes either dead or incapacitated. Perhaps the surviving heroes will find a way to journey to alternate timelines and realities to recruit help for the final fight against Thanos. We could even see members of the team from a reality where they couldn’t save New York from the aliens, which would be in keeping with the premise of Exiles.
We still believe that time travel will also be a factor in Avengers 4, since there will be sequences set in the ’40s and ’60s. But how it will all come together is still anyone’s guess. We’ll just have to wait and see until the film hits in May 2019.
