One of the most common refrains from moviegoers after seeing James Cameron sci-fi adventure Avatar was that they wished they didn’t have to leave that world; they were crestfallen they couldn’t really travel to the beautiful planet of strange creatures and stunning landscapes themselves. Well soon enough that dream won’t be unobtanium any longer, as the attraction Avatar: Discover Pandora is set to open in Taiwan.
We came across this announcement at Entertainment Weekly, and tickets go on sale today, September 20, for the the December 7 opening of the interactive exhibition at Shin Kong Mitsukoshi in Taipei City, Taiwan, where it will run for three months before moving to other (as yet unnamed) locations around the world.
The 12,000 square foot exhibit is “inspired by the extraordinary creatures, breathtaking environments and inspirational cultures” of the movie, and will include “life-sized creatures like the Banshee, Direhorse, and Viperwolf.” You will also be able to read information about the “culture, language and music of the Naâvi,” a have a chance to “explore recreations of Pandoraâs most compelling environments,” including how those floating mountains move, and lots of other activities and displays. Â We might be most excited about the Bioluminescent Theater, which will recreate an evening on Pandora, which is all we’ve ever wanted since seeing the movie the first time.
The exhibit is a partnership between Global Experience Specialists, Inc. and Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products, who worked and consulted with Cameron and Jon Landauâs Lightstorm Entertainment on the attraction.
So while Cameron works on bringing us the long-awaited sequel(s) to Avatar, we’ll be waiting for Discover Pandora to head to our corner of the globe so we can actually revisit that beautiful world ourselves.
