Autonomous Warship Fleets Will Soon Haul Giant Guns Across the Oceans

If you saw Boston Dynamics’ latest robot and the tricks it could do, you may have finally accepted that robots are poised to take over life as we know it. But all those robots have spindly legs and rely on bulky batteries and tethers. Surely, if we had to hide from these mechanical monsters, we could retreat to the sea, right? Wrong!

The China Aerospace and Science Technology Corporation is the latest company to get into the race to build a fleet of autonomous warships. Their D3000 model would, like other models proposed world-over, be able to operate uncrewed for months. The ship would also come equipped with Gatling cannons, anti-ship missiles, torpedoes, mines, and other smaller robo-ships.

Combined with the proliferation of armed aerial drones, neither land nor sea nor air will be safe. Best get on the bots’ good side now.

Also on the show today, Tokyo has granted residence to an AI represented by a tiny boy who loves to observe you, Dr. Stephen Hawking has some good news and bad news for the future of humanity, and the Musk man himself decided to give context to our existence on Twitter.
