Automatic Door Sounds Just Like R2-D2 Screaming When It Opens

Why exactly did R2-D2, a skilled, versatile, loyal astromech droid, one capable of coming through in the most dire of situations, shut himself down for so long when Luke Skywalker went missing in The Force Awakens? Well now we may have an answer. It appears he had taken a part time job working as an automatic door, and he found the whole thing horrifying.

This short but splendid video was posted by the YouTube account Comedology, and it shows an automatic hotel door that, when it opens, sounds just like Artoo when he screams. No, really, it sounds exactly like a frightened R2-D2. If you don’t believe me watch this clip and compare it to the sound the door makes.

I want to buy a full-sized replica R2-D2, then go get an authentic looking Darth Vader costume, and just have Vader chase Artoo through these doors over and over again. I don’t ever remember another automatic door sounding particularly noteworthy, yet somehow this sounds so much like him it almost doesn’t seem real. Was it designed to sound like Artoo? Is this just as weird as it seems. Whatever it is, now I’m going to be listening to every door I walk through like a weirdo.

We love finding examples of things that make Star Wars sounds, like how a slinky of all things can be used to make a blaster sound. Oh man! I should add that to my Vader/Artoo chase. Toss in some stormtroopers, stand out of frame holding a slinky, and let the magic happen. This thing is coming together real nice.

What are some other real world sounds that remind you of Star Wars? We want to hear from you in the comments below.
