ATTACK THE BLOCK Director is Doing a King Arthur Movie with Patrick Stewart

Back in 2011, Joe Cornish impressed sci-fi fans with his sleeper hit, Attack the Block, which featured John Boyega and Jodie Whittaker years before they landed leading roles in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Doctor Who, respectively. Amazingly, Cornish hasn’t directed a film since Attack of the Block was released, but his long-awaited follow up movie has finally been revealed.

Empire is reporting that Cornish is directing The Kid Who Would Be King, a story that will follow a 12-year-old British boy named Alex, as he suddenly finds the fate of the world in his hands when he comes into possession of Excalibur, the legendary sword of King Arthur. And it will be Alex’s duty to confront Arthur’s evil sister Morgana and prevent her from destroying the Earth as we know it.

Apparently this film is much further along than we realized. Empire‘s report states that filming has already begun, with Louis Serkis as Andy, who just happens to be son of actor/director Andy Serkis. The Dark Tower star Tom Taylor and Rhianna Doris are costarring as Andy’s best friends. And in a really inspired piece of casting, Sir Patrick Stewart is portraying Merlin, while Rebecca Ferguson will play Morgana.

We won’t have to wait long to see the film, as 20th Century Fox has already lined up a release date. The Kid Who Would Be King will bow in theaters on September 28, 2018.
