Ill-Timed Bus Hilariously Ruins the Weather Channel’s View of an Imploding Stadium

Bringing down a massive arena with a controlled demolition requires careful planning by trained experts. It takes a keen understanding of both architecture and explosive materials, and everything has to go perfectly or the resulting fallout could cause untold damage to surrounding buildings or people. What’s not nearly as hard to do is stick a camera nearby to film it… or so you’d think. On Monday, the Weather Channel attempted such a feat in filming the implosion of Atlanta’s Georgia Dome, only to be undone by the worst-timed bus in television news history.

At the exact moment the explosives went off and the whole stadium was about to come down, a MARTA bus pulled up and stopped right in front of the network’s perfectly placed camera. What should have been an incredible spectacle turned into a hilarious yet exasperating failure.

Amazing.

If you aren’t a sports person, you might not know that the Georgia Dome was the home of the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons prior to this season, when the team moved into the fancy new Mercedes-Benz Stadium right next door. In honor of the team’s nearly two decades playing there, we’d like to describe what happened today with an analogy all football fans will understand.

Think of the Weather Channel as the Falcons, the controlled demolition as the Super Bowl, and the bus as the New England Patriots. Things were all set up for the Weather Channel to have a memorable day, when—at the last second—a bus showed up and ruined everything for the expected champions. Oh, and let’s just say that the bus driver won his fifth title cementing himself as the greatest in his field of all time.

In other words, the Weather Channel shouldn’t feel too bad about this failure. It was only the second most famous implosion in Atlanta history. But how would you describe this bus showing up at that exact moment? Give us your best analogy in the comments below.
