Production has been underway for the film adaptation of Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed for a little while now, and we are finally getting to see more from the film. While there is still plenty about the film’s central plot that is unknown (which is good, because surprises are fun), the French website skript.fr has released several photos from the set featuring star Michael Fassbender, in his full assassin costume, stalking around a recreation of 15th century Spain. Sadly, while nothing official has come around since Fassbender’s costume reveal, these pictures are enough to stir up some excitement. The pictures are a bit grainy and shot from far away, but that costume is quite hard to miss among the crowds…which is quite counter-intuitive of an assassin.

Ever since the first announcement of Fassbender’s Assassin’s Creed adaptation circulated, they made sure to let everyone know it would not be based on any specific game in the franchise. Instead, the movie follows its own original plot set in the same world as the games. So, the 15th century Spain setting, which has not been seen in Ubisoft’s franchise yet, helps solidify that claim, but there is another aspect of Assassin’s Creed that we don’t know if the film will touch upon. It has yet to be seen if Fassbender will strictly be playing the main Assassin character of the film, or if he will also be involved in whatever modern-day Abstergo scenario the film includes with it. Then again, that is if there even will be an Abstergo connection. The film could opt to bypass the science fiction ties of the Animus and genetic memory, and instead tell a straightforward historical fiction epic.
Assassin’s Creed will release in theaters on December 21st, 2016. Let us know what you think of the set photos in the comments below.
