In film and television, cars can be more than modes of transportation that get people from point a to point b. They can become characters or at least key parts of the story. The Impala from Supernatural comes to mind, and so does the stair car from Arrested Development. Artist Ido Yehimovitz has several favorite rides from pop culture, and he’s decided to draw them in a new ongoing series as a tribute.
He’s tackled some iconic vehicles so far including the ECTO-1 from Ghostbusters, the van from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and a SUV from Jurassic Park. There are more than a couple that I don’t recognize, and it makes me think I should pay more attention to how people get around on screen. Right now I usually only take notice of cars and trucks because of blatant product placement.
Yehimovitz’s spin on the vehicles is cartoon-y and exaggerates their shapes. Seeing them in this style makes me want an animated series starring cars from pop culture – it could be just like the Pixar film. In fact, that’s what they should consider doing for Cars 3. Just imagine the ECTO-1 teaming up with Inspector Gadget’s Gadgetmobile. They could go on fantastic adventures, solve crimes, and stop ghosts along the way. Hey, it would probably more interesting than whatever Pixar has planned for Lightning McQueen and company.
Take a look at more of Yehimovitz’s car illustrations over at Behance and see how many you recognize.
Which one of these rides would you like borrow? Jump to the comments and let us know.

I would want the Ecto-1 and it is not even close. In a very distant second would be the Ninja Turtle Van followed by Jurassic Park and Inspector Gadget cars.
Reminds me of Hanna-Barbera’s Wacky Races.
KITT?
