Artist Creates Super-Realistic Paper Airplanes

There is more than one way to be jealous of people who fly first class. YouTuber Luca Iaconi-Stewart created an incredibly realistic model of the layout of Air India’s 777-300ERs made only of manila envelopes. Now that is a paper airplane! The video, above, is mesmerizing to watch, showing the installation of a row of seats into the plane. Singapore Airlines recently commissioned Iaconi-Stewart to recreate one of their jets in miniature to showcase their tagline, “no detail is too small.” (Apparently they didn’t consider how uncomfortable most planes are, and how that line rankles with people shoved into economy seats.)

That said, the video is fascinating. Iaconi-Stewart begins by cutting out tiny pieces of the paper with a razor blade, and crafts the seats, the body of the plane and tray tables. Every detail is incredibly precise, from head rests sliding into holes in the back of chairs, to foot rests that raise and lower, to the tiny little Singapore Airlines logo on everything. The seats recline and the ones in the higher-priced cabins fold down into beds. He recreated all of the cabins, including economy, premium economy, business, first class, and suite sections. Suites? They have suites? With doors that close? Do you suddenly feel like Oliver Twist peering into an expensive candy store while starving? Do magical elves serve you airplane food and your drink of choice? For free?

Iaconi-Stewart is a self-described “crazy guy who loves aviation,” and it’s clear from the incredible detail in his work. Let’s hope he gets one of those suites every time he flies this airline. Check out the videos and let us know what you think. Tweet me/us @JennaBusch/@Nerdist and tell us if you’ve ever flown in one of those fancy suites. Was it amazing? Did you feel like royalty? Can you bring us a napkin from your next flight?
