Artist Creates Moody Origami Cranes Every Day For a Year

New Year’s resolutions are a well-intentioned way to start the year, but unfortunately, a lot of them seem to fall by the wayside because hey, getting up at 6am and going to the gym is really hard. Artist Cristian Marianciuc started 2015 with a resolution, vowing to create a new origami crane every single day of the year.

Credit where it’s due: There aren’t many days left in 2015, and it looks like Marianciuc is going to make it and see his journey through to the very end. He’s been documenting his daily crane foldings on his Instagram account, and the results have been beautiful.

There’s not much flexibility in terms of the crane’s shape–there are only so many ways to fold a piece of paper into a crane, after all–but what Marianciuc lacks in structural deviation, he makes up for with variety in color and theme. Some cranes have adornments on the wings, like jewels or wires or even additional miniature cranes. Some feature drawings of cityscapes or nature.

Marianciuc’s experience is a valuable lesson in what can result from perseverance and dedication, and also in what is possible when you think outside the box, even if seemingly restrictive boundaries are placed upon you. A crane can be much more than a crane.

We have highlighted a few of our favorite creations in a gallery below, but you have to head to Marianciuc’s Instagram account for the full experience. Also, at the start of 2016, keep this guy in mind when making your own resolutions.
