Art Snob: Odd City’s Carrie

ART SNOB LOGO

Odd City Entertainment may be one of the newer kids on the collectable movie poster block (these particular city planners were terrible at naming streets), but the Austin based company has quickly caught the attention of myself, and the collecting world at whole.

This column has previously covered some Odd City releases (Pacific Rim, Secret of NIMH), and today we’ve got a treat for you.

Feast your eyes on this lovely piece of awesome.

This poster, inspired by Brian De Palma/Stephen King’s classic film Carrie, is not only a really cool piece, BUT, it’s the work of Odd City’s own Chief Creative Director Jessica Deahl. Here is Jessica’s take on the poster and Carrie.

When Odd City asked me to take on CARRIE, I couldn’t have been more excited. Now an iconic horror film more than thirty years old, the themes of fear, isolation, and estrangement are still relatable. I wanted to portray the story of Carrie White as a triumph. She overcomes the horrific and inhumane treatment of her peers and unjust religious control of her mother to win back her life. She was a prisoner in her own home, and her rage destroys it.”

The piece will be printed in a “signature” limited release of 150 posters, printed with 6 inks on French butcher off-white paper.

The Carrie poster will be released at a random time on Thursday, September 19th, so be sure to stay tuned to Odd City for more info and a way to grab yourself one of these fantastic prints.
