If you’ve read this column before, it’s no secret that I’m a big fan of the folks over at Gallery 1988 and the phenomenal art they bring to the geeky (and increasingly “not as geeky”) art world. Friday, they unleash their newest “holy crap, this art show is so awesome I need to buy everything” exhibit onto the world.
Artists Dave Perillo and Tom Whalen have teamed up for “Modern Vintage,” a two-man show in which the artists interpret modern geek iconography as vintage-style art pieces. Readers of this blog (or art fans in general) will most likely be familiar with the work of both men, and to get them to team up for a show like this is a really cool and special event.
Here’s Gallery 1988 founder/owner and Art Snob friend Jensen Karp on the big show:
“Tom and Dave are two of the most creative and hard working artists weâve shown in our 10 year history. Weâre so proud to be an integral part of their story, as an early stop for two very fast trains. ‘Modern Vintage’ shows their growth as artists and their uncanny ability to connect with their audience.”
Here’s a peek at some of the featured pieces, and if you’re not lucky enough to attend the show while it runs in Los Angeles, definitely check out the Gallery 1988 website and grab some pieces when they become available:
Lovinâ these pieces? What geeky property would you like to see get the “Vintage” treatment? Kindly leave a comment, email me , check out my YouTube channel, or hit me up on the Twitter machine.
