Art Snob: D23’s “Steamboat Willie” Redux

ART SNOB LOGOIf you know anything about me, you know that I’m a huge Disney fan (and a great hugger), and as such an enthusiast of all things Mouse, it was a big thrill for me to get to attend my first ever D23 expo in Anaheim this past weekend. For anyone unfamiliar with the D23, the expo is held every two years at the Anaheim Convention Center (conveniently located directly across the street from the Disneyland park) and is a 3-day Disney-run convention, celebrating their upcoming films, theme park projects, merchandise and so much more… like art. Upon entering the Expo, I was greeted by a sight that sent this art-snob into geek ecstasy: a mini-gallery of works inspired by Mickey’s first cartoon, Steamboat Willie.  SWILLY 1 This was the official description of the art show:

“The art of Steamboat Willie Redux plays within the ‘It all started with a Mouse’ theme. We asked our creative friends at Disney to create their own scene interpretations from the 1928 animated short, Steamboat Willie. With the participation of a wide variety of artists, we proudly celebrate Mickey in a multitude of iterations, styles, and mediums.

Without further ado, here’s a peek at some of the art, sure to hit a soft spot in the hearts of anyone who ever donned a hat with mouse ears attached to it.
