Arsenal and Black Canary Fight Hard in Deleted ARROW Season 3 Action Scenes

The third season of The CW’s Arrow pushed Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) and Team Arrow to their limits as they dealt with the REDACTED of Sara Lance (Caity Lotz), the return of Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman), an all-out assault from Captain Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthorne) and the Starling City police, as well as an ultimatum from the Demon’s Head, Ra’s al Ghul (Matthew Nable)!

Arrow is one of the most action-packed series on television. But even on this show, not everything makes it to the screen, or even past the planning stages. A newly released video from The CW showcases six action sequences that didn’t make the cut this season. But as Arrow Fight Coordinator, James “Bam Bam” Bamford explains, there was still a significant amount of work put into the planning of these scenes. Most of the deleted action sequences don’t exist outside of the rehearsal footage used in this video.

The scenes featured are:

  • Katana’s escape from the League of Assassins from Episode 323: “My Name is Oliver Queen”
  • Arsenal vs. Isaac from Episode 306: “Guilty”
  • Cupid vs. a Terrorist from Episode 317: “Suicidal Tendencies”
  • Arsenal and Black Canary vs. Brick’s thugs from Episode 311: “Midnight City”
  • Laurel training with Nyssa from Episode 318: “Public Enemy”
  • Thea vs. The League of Assassins: Episode 320: “The Fallen”

Among the revelations from the video are confirmation that Roy Harper’s (Colton Haynes) ridiculous flip moves were originally intended to be an overt example of his showboating. That was toned down in the final version of the included scene. Thea’s big action moment in “The Fallen” was lost because it was seemingly too soon after her death and rebirth in the Lazarus pit.

But the most intriguing scene that was left on the cutting room floor was the one-take fight scene with Arsenal and Black Canary from “Midnight City.” Even in the early stages seen in this video, that sequence looks like it could have been Arrow’s “Daredevil” moment, three months before that series came out on Netflix!

There’s a good chance that this video will be included among the extras of the upcoming Arrow Season 3 DVD and Blu-ray sets when they hit on Tuesday, September 22. The fourth season of Arrow will follow on Wednesday, October 7.
