ARROW Unveils “Oliver Queen for Mayor” Campaign Posters

Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) spent five years in exile before returning to Starling City to “save his city.” As the Arrow, he failed. Even as the Green Arrow, Queen’s track record is less than stellar. Earlier this season on Arrow, Oliver decided that he would run for mayor of the recently renamed Star City to become a beacon of hope in a way that his costumed alter egos couldn’t match.

While it remains to be seen if Oliver will win the race for mayor (despite running unopposed), the Arrow creative team has released two of the show’s Oliver Queen for Mayor posters, which include the campaign’s official website: OliverQueenforMayor.com. The site isn’t active yet, but that will probably change soon.

Arrow Oliver Queen for Mayor 1

There’s a very good reason why no one has stepped up to challenge Oliver as an opposing candidate: the mayors of Starling City/Star City have a bad habit of getting killed by the city’s increasingly dangerous criminals. At the beginning of Arrow season 2, Mayor Altman was murdered by the Hoods, which led Moira Queen and Sebastian Blood to enter the race to replace him.

After launching her campaign, Moira was murdered by one of her backers (and secret supervillain), Slade Wilson; this handed the election to Blood. Faced with the destruction of his city, Blood betrayed Slade and tried to stop his agenda before he was murdered as well. More recently, the League of Assassins murdered Mayor Celia Castle in an attempt to frame the Arrow during the third season.

Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough) tried to get Oliver under his control, and it’s been hinted by Darhk himself that Oliver won’t be unopposed for mayor if he continues to defy him. That leads to a new question: Who will Darhk attempt to install as mayor? We may find out when Arrow season 4 resumes on Wednesday, January 20.
