ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT Season 5 Trailer Has the Bluths Running for Office

It was confirmed at almost exactly this time last year, and now we have our first video evidence that it’s really happening: Netflix just shared a trailer for the upcoming fifth season of Arrested Development.

While the show’s fourth season wasn’t exactly beloved by fans, it appears that the new season fixed the show’s segmentation of characters and will have the whole family together in the same room again. We first see the Bluth clan reunited during the shooting of a campaign ad for Lindsay, who is running for Congress because, as she puts it, “I want to be part of the problem, Michael.”

The Bluths are also continuing their always needed PR campaign by giving themselves the award for Family of the Year. (They’ve even made an actual IRL website to support the cause.) All of this, and presumably other things we haven’t been made privy to yet, irritate Michael enough that he once again commits himself to abandoning the family. That’s kind of fair, honestly, since the rest of the Bluths still seem committed to keeping Michael in the dark about their more controversial dealings: In one clip from the trailer, a sign in the background lists two rules for the cottage the family seem to be staying in: “Hang towels to dry; Do not leave on the floor” and “Don’t tell Michael.”

Though a new season is exciting, there is some controversy at play here surrounding Jeffrey Tambor’s return to the show. Tambor was recently fired from his starring role in Transparent in light of sexual harassment claims made against him, and some fans were surprised to see that Arrested Development hadn’t followed suit. A The Hollywood Reporter profile that was published on the same day the above trailer was released includes commentary from Netflix CCO Ted Sarandos saying that Tambor “has always been totally professional,” but also mention of a combative episode between Tambor and his Arrested Development costar Jessica Walter.

The new season is set to hit Netflix on May 29. Do you think it will be able to redeem the show after its fourth season? Or did you actually like the fourth season? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
