Arnold Schwarzenegger Hints At a New TERMINATOR Movie

After Terminator Genisys achieved only a tepid domestic box office response when it came out last year, many industry observers believed that the Terminator franchise had been…well, terminated. That was a reasonable assumption considering that Paramount pulled the planned Terminator sequel from its upcoming calendar and the TV spinoff failed to materialize.

But there’s at least one man who seems to think that the franchise isn’t finished: the Terminator himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger. During an interview with Australia’s Channel 9 (via Telegraph), Schwarzenegger was asked about a sixth Terminator film. In response, he simply said “I am looking forward to it, absolutely.”

That statement is far from definitive, but it certainly seems to imply that the project isn’t as dead as we thought it was. While Terminator Genisys didn’t crack $100 million in the US, it pulled in $350 million internationally. That includes an impressive $113 million from China, but U.S. films only keep a fraction of their box office from that country.

There is another incentive for the Terminator to get another film in the near future. The rights to the Terminator franchise will revert to original director James Cameron in 2019. That leaves only three years to get a new Terminator movie out or it may not happen at all. Cameron is currently wrapped up in the production of the Avatar sequels, and it’s hard to picture him taking his focus off of that franchise in the near future.
