Are They Registered At GameStop?

I am not a fan of “theme weddings.” I prefer either your traditional wedding — that’s what we did — or a quick “I do” in front of a judge or exchanging vows in the backyard followed by a party with volleyball and beer, which some friends did. Or maybe with Elvis presiding in Vegas. But then there’s this:

A Super Mario Bros.-themed wedding? Well, it IS part of the bride’s and groom’s lives, being video-game children of the 80’s, and everyone will be in costume as Mario marries Princess Peach/Toadstool. The father of the bride will be Bowser, and guests (300-400 of them) will be encouraged to dress as any character except Mario or the Princess; guests don’t HAVE to do it, but if they don’t, they’re being asked to wear white, to represent clouds. Bridesmaids always hate the dresses they have to wear, but I’ll wager that they’ll REALLY hate whatever they’ll have to wear for this one.

Their first purchase as a couple? A Wii. Aww. Anyway, which video game or TV show or movie would you use as a theme for your wedding? (Or bar mitzvah, or funeral) I bet nobody’s done a Dig Dug wedding. Yet.

My fiance and me are looking into a themed wedding either the movie Tron by disney or a pokemon themed wedding! this was a great idea and i think it is awesome.

  2. I make a living from people (Geeks, Nerds, Gamers) and their theme weddings. I’ve done 7 Mario and Princess Peach toppers, 20+ Xbox Avatar Toppers, a dozen or so WoW toppers and countless Mii toppers. It’s quite normal, fun and a great way to personalize a day that will go by so fast you’ll have a hard time recalling specifics. Good for her!

My husband and I discussed a themed wedding. We were considering steam punk, browncoats, and a giant halloween bash… due to cost it all fell through and went with a much cheaper wedding elsewhere. If I could do it again, I would do a themed wedding hands down.

I would love to see how their Super Mario wedding turns out! I would imagine it would look brilliant!

I’m all for making your wedding your own, but don’t do it just to be Internet famous.

My husband and I didn’t do a theme wedding (though I did walk down the aisle to music from The Fellowship of the Ring)… But if we did it would probably be Harry Potter or World of Warcraft themed, as those are really the only fandoms we share.

I’d love to have a superhero themed wedding. Just as me and my significant other try to exchange our vows, one of my friends would burst in the room dressed as a supervillain, with a bunch of “henchmen” in tow. We would exchange our vows while going through a choreographed fight scene, saying “I do” as we both punch the villain right in the face.

I get all teary eyed when I think about it (mostly because I’m single).

If I could “land” in front Of my guests in The TARDIS, I’d be Sooo happy.

My fiancé nixed my request for a Pokemon themed wedding.

  9. Debbie W says:

I would die happy to have a Doctor Who themed wedding.

I give props to that bride… she knows what she wants! I however had to tone it down for my wedding.. although our entrance music was Star Wars and our cake was a stack of books (cuz we’re nerdo librarians)

  11. I desperately need to see the Father-in-Law’s Bowser costume they mention.

    Thanks for sharing this!

I think next time around (after hell freezes over), I’d like to have a Fallout wedding. Sorta’ dirty post-apocalyptic vintage. That would be cool. I’d make the bridesmaids wear Vault 21 jumpsuits. How awesome would that be?

  13. …and the best bachelor party for such a themed wedding?
