It’s not a matter of if Marvel characters will make their way to Disney Infinity but when the Mouse House planned to bring their massive stable of capes to the collectible toy game.

“When” appears to be August, if a Disney Infinity 2.0 announcement – since pulled – is to be believed. Eurogamer spotted the announcement on Disney’s fan-centric D23 (don’t worry, it’s been cached).

Disney Infinity 2.0 is coming in August 2014, and a teaser trailer can be viewed at Marvel.com. The teaser promises such Marvel-ous additions to the game as familiar Marvel characters, objects, and vehicles — the possibilities are infinite.

Eurogamer rightly points out that the proposed release date would put Infinity 2.0 out about a year after the release of the first game. And with the addition of the Marvel’s character’s, it could give rival collectible toy game Skylanders a run for its money.

Just wild speculation here, but expect a similar strategy in the lead-up to Episode VII, with Disney integrating the Star Wars universe into the game.
