How the New AQUAMAN Trailer Leaves the Snyder-verse Behind

Director Zack Snyder’s influence has been felt in every piece of the DC Extended Universe that has come since it kicked off with Man of Steel. Even Wonder Woman and Suicide Squad followed Snyder’s lead, while offering some tonal shake-ups with their respective stories. However, Aquaman may see the biggest change yet, as the new trailer really puts the trident into the Snyder-verse aesthetic. Today’s Nerdist News is diving in to bring you the most promising details from New York Comic Con’s extended look at the world’s first ever Aquaman movie.

Join guest host Amy Vorpahl as she takes us into the colorful new worlds of Aquaman, which will feature Jason Momoa’s Aquaman draped in a green and gold costume similar to his comic book counterpart.

While Snyder tended to favor a more serious approach to DC’s iconic heroes, Aquaman seems to leave that era behind by embracing the inherent humor that comes from a guy who talks to fish, as well as a villain with a ridiculous black helmet that shoots lasers out of its eyes. This movie doesn’t look or act like it’s ashamed of the source material. Instead, it acknowledges the legacy of Aquaman and adds new layers to familiar faces. On top of that, the first trailer shows us that Arthur Curry will even get to crack jokes that are actually funny!

It’s particularly good to see Amber Heard’s Mera and Nicole Kidman’s Atlanna are also being given their own agency and goals within the story. Aquaman‘s leading man isn’t the only one who has a compelling tale to tell, and we can’t wait to see this movie unfold on the big screen.
