Ant-Man’s First Teaser is a Tiny Miracle of Awesome

Leave it to Marvel to give us exactly what we want AND make us throw our hands up in comic dismay at the method through which it was delivered. It’s only the second day of 2015 and we’ve already got the first teaser for Ant-Man from the super-powered movie studio:

Come on. Be honest. You laughed, right? You clicked around the internet during the first 12 seconds wondering if somehow you had clicked a faulty link or the embed you were watching was messed up. Maybe then you ran for a magnifying glass (what, you don’t have one on hand at all times?) and watched it again, and again, and again.

It wasn’t a joke. Marvel continues in its grand tradition of poking fun at itself with a trailer that both entertains and probably infuriates the viewer. Don’t worry, though. The full, real-life human-sized trailer will hit the small screen on Tuesday, January 6th during the highly anticipated premiere of Agent Carter on ABC. The internet has already started zooming in and analyzing the trailer despite the horrific graininess, but aside from marrying our knowledge of comic books with IMDB casting information, there’s not a whole lot to gather from the teaser aside from the fact that characters walk places – place inside, places outside, etc.

We’ve been pretty pumped to see Paul Rudd step into a superhero role ever since Ant-Man casting rumors first circulated more than a year ago, and this kind of troll-happy trailer from Marvel really just ups the ante. We’re also excited to see Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne (she talked superheroes with Chris Hardwick at SDCC this year) and Michael Douglas as Hank Pym.

So here’s what we’re looking forward to come January 6th: a full-screen trailer experience sans pixilation of Ant-Man AND the debut of Agent Carter, because Peggy Carter is awesome. And if that’s not enough, word on the web has it that Marvel will also release more Avengers: Age of Ultron footage on January 12th during the college football playoffs on ESPN. 2015, we like you already.

Ant-Man hits theaters in the US on July 17, 2015.

Tell us what you’re most excited about in the comments below or hit me up on Twitter to tell me why you can’t wait for Agent Carter (and Ant-Man obviously) at @bookoisseur.

What a cynical world we live in, the teaser trailer was funny to me, and it got what Marvel wanted.  People are talking about it.
