“Where is My Mind?” by the Pixies (as heard during the climax of Fight Club, and many movies and commercials since) is a flawless song. Forget whether or not it’s one of your favorite songs ever, or even if it’s your favorite song by them: understand that it is not just the most memorable track off of their classic album Surfer Rosa, but it is objectively musical perfection. How good is it really, though? So good it even transcends species, as this version of the song with a bunch of animals on lead vocals, proves.
We first came across this rendition at Slate, and it was made by the YouTube account Insane Cherry. Contributing their meows, howls, barks, and random, inexplicable animal noises are some cats (including this one that says “no no no no no”), Gabe the dog, a goat, a lamb, and even a yelling fox.
Hey, do you know what this means? Not only did these folks give us an animal-led version of one of the best songs ever, they answered the most eternal question of our time: now we know what the hell the fox says!
I know what Insane Cherry’s follow-up to this video should be. Get that yelling fox and his friends to sing a version of that most absurd song by Ylvis.
And then after that maybe they can do another Pixies song. How about “Debaser?” They just might need a few more screaming animals, though.
What song do you think these animals could do a rocking rendition of? Howl your best ideas in our comments below.
