Andy Samberg Asked Neil deGrasse Tyson About Robot Sex

Imagine for a second how it might go if Andy Samberg got to ask Neil deGrasse Tyson absolutely any questions he wanted. Yup! Nailed it. It went exactly like that. The questions were funny and silly, and the answers sincere and informative. The only thing that might surprise you is that Neil deGrasse Tyson has some very specific rules for what constitutes adultery with a robot.

On last night’s episode of The Late Late Show With James Corden (via Vulture), the Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Lonely Island star was given a chance to ask the famed astrophysicist anything he wanted. Although Tyson never got to Samberg’s second inquiry about the possibilities of time travel (if it is possible, hopefully he’ll come back to this—literally), but he did explain to Samberg why he thinks it is almost a guarantee we aren’t the only intelligent life form in the universe, citing the prevalence of the very elements that we carbon-based lifeforms are made of as a reason to believe we aren’t alone.

Then he got to the really important question: Is it cheating to have sex with a robot? As any Futurama fan can tell you, robot sex is very dangerous, because it can lead to a wasted lifetime of total pleasure and contentment. However, Samberg wanted to know if it would count as cheating.

“If you have sex with a robot that does not look like your wife or your girlfriend yes it’s cheating,” Tyson said, “If they look like your loved one then it’s just until they get home, but otherwise yeah you’re cheating.”

Man we are going to have some really weird conversations about ethics this century. Hopefully they do figure out time travel and just come back to tell us the correct answers, before a bunch of marriages are ruined by robot sex.

Okay, let’s do this: is sex with a robot cheating? Does it matter if the robot looks like your significant other? Give us your answers in the comments below.
