Anatomically Correct Chocolate Skulls Are the Latest in High-Brow Confections

With Hannibal making cannibalism all the rage among today’s discerning TV audiences, the Black Chocolate Co. in Manchester, England has just the thing for your next marathon viewing party — anatomically accurate, completely edible Belgian chocolate skulls. Yes, when ordinary Halloween candy just won’t cut it, and you’re looking for something a little more interesting than a Hershey’s Bar, break out one of these delicacies, handcrafted from a mold made out of a real human skull. They’re available in four different flavors — dark chocolate, chilli chocolate, caramel chocolate, and milk chocolate — direct from The Black Chocolate Co.’s Etsy store.

Ah, yes, when the Brits do sweets, they do them on a level we Americans can only dream of. (Yet the UK doesn’t seem to have much in the way of sugar cereals on its supermarket shelves. Go figure.) According to its Etsy page, the Black Chocolate Co. dusts its chocolate skulls with fine cocoa powder. The weight of each skull is 1.5 kilograms. The chocolatier adds that “Some skulls may show evidence of what could appear to be mold, but in actual fact this is chocolate bloom, or ‘blooming’, an inherent part of the casting process which does not affect the chocolate in any way (and only adds to the skull’s gnarly, ‘fresh from the ground’ look).”

Yup, they give a whole new meaning to the phrase “Death by Chocolate.”
