An Oiled Up Go-Go Dancing Jason Statham Cannot Be Unseen

On behalf of the entire Nerdist.com organization I wholeheartedly apologize for what you just witnessed. We just couldn’t be alone in seeing this 1988 video by The Shamen a, bear with us here, “Scottish psychedelic-influenced electronic dance music band from Aberdeen, Scotland.” Because you know, that was apparently a thing at some point.

The important, and perhaps only, takeaway from this is a young go-go dancer by the name of Jason Statham. The early career of the English actor is often cited as a diver but who knew he was diving into pools filled with baby oil. After seeing this, the scene in The Transporter in which Statham purposely oils himself up while fighting in a bus depot just seems a whole lot creepier now.

Statham-gyration aside, this video is a spot on representation for electronic music of the late ’80s. The Shamen sure packed in everything they could into this video. Lets take a tally. Layered electronic beats? Check. A mix of lyrics both spoken and sung with frequent mentions of “consciousness”? Check. A video reminiscent of an early gif-heavy Geocities webpage? Triple F’n check! But seriously, lets get back to Jason Statham’s moves.

Promise me you’ll destroy the computer I made this on if I die suddenly.

There’s definitely something hypnotic about a future action star dancing to ’80s electronica and we’re very very sorry we had to burn this into your corneas but it needed to be done.

Are The Shamen your new favorite band? Have any tips to wash oily Stathams from our brains? Let us know in the comments below!
