There’s an Amish Version of Uber That Uses a Horse and Buggy

If your car is in the shop for a few days, you don’t want to worry about finding a designated driver for a night out, or you’re trying to get to a place where parking will be limited, Uber has become the go-to alternate means of transportation. If you’re looking for a more organic experience, though, now there’s Amish Uber (via LaughingSquid).

In the town of Colon, Michigan, an Amish man named Timothy Hochstedler cruises around in his horse and buggy, offering people rides for just $5. He decided an Amish spin on Uber would be a neat idea, so that’s just what he’s doing: “Uber is a cool thing,” he told CBS News. “Every single year something new comes in and Uber is hot right now, so we have the Amish Uber. We can go and deliver people to their front door steps.”

As to be expected, there are limitations to this service: It’s only in this one Michigan town, you can only go as fast as a horse can pull a buggy, and to request a ride, you have to go out and just flag down Hochstedler; you didn’t really expect an Amish man to have developed an app for his service, did you? While this definitely isn’t a viable Uber alternative, it at least seems like a fun way to get around Colon the next time you find yourself there and are looking for a nice scenic tour of a small town.

What do you think of “Amish Uber?” Would it be a fun novelty, or would you rather get comfortable in a more modern vehicle? Let us know what you think down in the comments!
