AMERICAN HORROR STORY Gets Renewed After Season 4’s Ratings Bonanza

Get ready for yet another installment of the horrors that lie within these United States, folks, because a fifth season of FX’s demented Ryan Murphy playground, American Horror Story, has been requested by the network. And after only a single episode of season four — to be fair, that one episode had the series’ highest ratings ever, so — a no duh move but an exciting one nonetheless!

Yes, you read that last bit right: the premiere of American Horror Story: Freak Show set a record for the network, becoming the most-watched TV episode in FX’s history, which is certainly nothing to shake a stick at (if that were a thing people did outside of that saying, for any reason whatsoever), bringing in 10 million total viewers with Live+3 numbers included. For a bit of perspective, last year’s Coven premiered to 7.27 million viewers. Guess we’re all just a buncha freaks, aren’t we?

So a fifth installment, slated for an October 2015 premiere, will be heading our way soon enough. No word on which of his go-to actors will be involved — it feels safe to assume Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters will, in the very least, be returning — but it has been heavily implied that Freak Show would be the last iteration of the series to include the incomparable Jessica Lange. But people’s minds get changed all the time, folks, so only time will tell on that one.

“Thank you AHS fans. You are amazing. Looking forward to Season 5!” the show’s creator and co-executive producer (alongside Brad Falchuk), Ryan Murphy tweeted following the announcement. Maybe it’s just us but we were expecting something far more creepy and sinister, all things considered.

Are you excited for a fifth season of American horrors? Let us hear the cheers and jeers in the comments.
